Tissue Paper Flowers

Hello! It has been awhile since I have posted to my blog. I guess, life in general seems to get hectic now and then… sometimes more so than others.

I recently participated in The Scrapbook Establishment latest Cyber crop that has now ended.  I entered this card in Ngaire’s Blind Card Challenge:

Material List: Cardstock, Patterned Papers, Border Punch, and Stamp by Stampin UP, Butterfly Stamp by Basic Grey, Letters by Prima, Tissue Paper Flowers, Distress Ink by Tim Holtz (Ranger).

I made those flowers myself and a few of the girls over at TSE asked me to show how I made the Tissue Paper Flowers.  So I thought I would include some step by step instructions here on my blog as a way of making it up to you for not posting for so long. :) These flowers take little time to make, I find if I make several as I go I always have some to grab and use on a project when needed.

TISSUE PAPER TUTORIAL

Materials needed:

  • Tissue Paper (plain white)
  • Circle Punches (any size)
  • Glimmer Mist
  • Needle and thread
  • Centres for the flowers (buttons, rhinestones, brads, chipboard)
  • Heat Gun
  • Paper Towel
  • Old cardboard box
Step One:

Fold the tissue paper over several times to create 3-4 layers, then punch out several circles in different sizes.

Step Two:

Layer your different size circles together and with needle and thread sew the layers together.

I bring the needle back to the front and tie off the thread several times and trim off the thread.

Step 3:

Take your tissue paper circles and place them onto some paper towel inside a cardboard box.  This makes a mini spray booth, I used an old pizza box from one of my many scrap orders. :)

Tip: Take your Glimmer Mist and swirl the bottle gently, do not shake, this avoids air bubbles forming which can result in big spots and splats of mist when you spray.  If you like that look then don’t worry. :)

Take your heat gun and dry the tissue paper circles.  You will find as the tissue paper dries the layers will separate, I find this adds dimension to the flowers so I allow that to happen. I tend to use the heat gun a little longer after the mist dries so I get the layers to separate.

Tip: I often do two coats/spray of the Glimmer Mist to build up the colour, using the heat gun between spraying. Make sure you angle the Glimmer Mist to spray in between the layers.

After the second spray of Glimmer Mist.

Step Four:

Take your dried Glimmered Flower and place in your chosen centre. I used some Glitz Designs Icing on this flower.

Step Five:

Using your fingers rough up the edges of the tissue paper, getting in between layers to add dimension.

Finish

For some variation I used my scalloped circle punch with this technique and it turned out brilliantly.  The combinations are endless!

This layout I did for the Journal It blog, it gives another example of using the Tissue Paper Flower.

Hope you enjoyed this creative process and if you have any questions leave me a comment and I will get back to you.

Thanks for dropping by.

Week 4

Material List: Red Cardstock, Patterned Paper by Stampin Up, Vintage Music Sheet, Circle Scallop Punch and border punch by Stampin Up, Real Red Ink by Stampin Up, Kaisercraft Pearls, Square Punch, Buttons, Letter stamps by EK Success and lots of Kindy Glitz.

Can you believe it is already week 4 into the Christmas in July competition over at The Scrapbook Establishment? Time has flown! This week's challenge is Song Inspired. I choose "We wish you a Merry Christmas", I know it isn't the most original but I love this song and I love singing it at Christmas time.

I came across a video for making the flower, here. I used the only circle scallop punch I have so my flower is smaller than what is shown in the video.

Thanks for stopping by.

Christmas in July Continues

Material List: White cardstock, SU patterned paper, SU wheel and Trendy Trees stamp set, Versa Mark Ink, American Crafts Chestnut Zing embossing powder, SU real red and chocolate chip ink, Acetate, Amazing Creations stamp, Tim Holtz distressing ink, SU eyelet punch, SU circle scallop, SU 1 3/4" and 1 1/4" circle punch, SU word window punch, SU chocolate chip satin ribbon.

We are into week 3 of the Christmas in July competition over at The Scrapbook Establishment. This weeks challenge was to use a specified colour combination to create a Christmas card. We had 2 colour schemes to choose from and I chose to use RED, BROWN and WHITE combo.

I stamped white cardstock with versa mark ink and embossed with the American Crafts Chestnut embossing powder and cut a circle out and inked it up with Tim Holtz distress ink. I also stamped a butterfly on acetate and embossed it with the same American Crafts Zing embossing powder and popped it up with a glue dot.

I realise that the above card does not look much like a Christmas card. Here's the thing, I wanted to do something different to the traditional Christmas card. For me at the end of the year, writing the Christmas cards is the only time I send some relatives and long distant friends a hello to wish them a Merry Christmas. So I thought it would make for a great card to received something a little different at Christmas time. The front says "Thinking of You" and the inside will say "at Christmas time". I wanted to use my new SU stamp set Trendy Trees for my Christmas cards this year so this card was an experiment. What do you think? Too different? Not Christmasy enough??

Take a look, here, and check out what everyone else has come up with. Amazing, inspiring work.

Journal It Challenge

The next challenge over at Journal It blog has been put up. The journalling prompt for this fortnight's challenge is TIMELINE. You can interpret this prompt anyway you like.

For me, timeline, made me think about how much my DD has changed in the first 12 months of her life. So this idea of a Bind It All project came to mind. I wanted a coffee table project that I can display which shows how much the little munchkin has changed. And thus the following OTP was created.

I wanted to show you the individual pages close up for you to have a better look at. I used several techniques that I learnt while watching the Jennifer McGuire videos on Tim Holtz distressing inks. Cover page DD at 1 and 2 months of age.

At 3 and 4 months of age.

5 & 6 months.

7 & 8 Months.

9 & 10 Months.
11 & 12 Months.
Material List for above project: Scenic Route Patterned Paper, Stampin Up, Autumn Leaves, Sassafrass Lass, Amazing Creations, EK Success Stamps, White embossing powder, Tim Holtz Distressing Inks, Martha Stewarts and Stampin Up border punch, White Paint, Zutter Bind It All, Prima Flowers, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Chipboard, Ranger Crackle Paint, Kaisercraft rhinestones.
The prompt for this challenge can take you in any direction you want to head. Look at the last 10 years and list out how much you have achieved or list out the major events that happened and create a LO or mini album. Create a LO showcasing the changes over a period of time. Or use it to list out your goals for the next 5 years. Take a moment to think what do you want is important for you to record and remember. Is there a project you have been meaning to complete but haven't started it yet? I hope this prompt inspires you to sit down and create that something you have been meaning to do. Don't forget to email your take on this journalling prompt to mailto:bjarrett@tpg.com.au for it to be showcased on the Journal It Blog. Love to see what you come up with.
Thanks for dropping by and keep on scrapping those everyday stories!

The Christmas in July competition is still going over at The Scrapbook Establishment, week 2 challenge has been posted. This weeks challenge is to use a Christmas Movie as inspiration for your card. My movie inspiration came from the movie ELF. I had downloaded some wordart that were quotes from the movie so I thought I would use that as the base for my card.

The Scrapbook Establishment has a 25% discount (and more) in the Christmas shop this month to celebrate Christmas in July as well as a Cybercrop this coming Thursday 9th July.

Christmas In July

Sorry guys I haven't been around my blog for awhile. Thanks for being patient.

I have entered the Scrapbook Establishment's Christmas In July Card competition hosted by Jaimee. It started at the beginning of this week with challenge one posted. You can read about it here.

This is my entry:

Materials: Vintage music sheets, Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Shabby Shutters, Scattered Straw, Fired Brick, Peeled Paint, Brush Corduroy; Stampin Up ribbon, scallop and border punch, Technique Tuesday Swiss Dot Stamp, Stampin Up Kindred Spirits stamp,Autumn Leaves heart stamp and Making Memories Rubons.

I realised that I haven't much in way of Christmas related stash as I used it all up last Christmas, so I used what I had and made it as Christmasy as I could.

I've been following along with Jennifer McGuire's Thinking Inking classes over at 2Pea's and she has tutorial videos that show numerous techniques. The first week was all about Tim Holtz Distress inks so I thought I would use the inspiration and try and make a card. You can find all the information over at her blog.
